Spirax Sarco BT6-BH and BT6-BL Balanced Pressure Thermostatic Steam Trap

The Spirax Sarco BT6-B Balanced Pressure Thermostatic Steam Trap is designed to remove condensate from clean and pure steam applications with minimal condensate retention. Its performance is influenced by surrounding steam pressure, and it is controlled by the concentration of the liquid mixture within its capsule whose boiling point is below that of water. At start-up, when conditions are cold, the capsule remains relaxed and the valve is fully open, allowing unrestricted discharge of air. As condensate flows through the trap, it heats up the capsule. The liquid inside then vaporizes before steam reaches the trap, building vapor pressure that expands the capsule and closes the valve. When heat is lost, the vapor condenses, the capsule contracts, and the valve reopens to release condensate. As steam approaches, the cycle repeats.

The BT6-BH is the high capacity version of this steam trap and the BT6-BL is the low capacity version. They are available from ½" to 1-1/2" in nominal size with sanitary clamp end styles and 316L Stainless Steel bodies, capsule elements, body clamps, and seals. The crevice free body design of this product line incorporates a 15° angled seat to ensure full drainability. The standard, thin-walled element is extremely sensitive to changes in condensate temperature, and it is designed to open with a minimum of sub-cooling. The maximum operating pressure of Spirax BT6-BH Steam Traps and Spirax BT6-BL Steam Traps for saturated steam service is 87 PSI ( 6 bar g) and its maximum operating temperature is 329°F (165°C).

The Spirax BT6-BH Steam Trap and BT6-BL Steam Trap are used in applications such as sterile steam barriers, block and bleed installations, mains drainage and CIP/SIP of vessels and reactors and process lines. Each BT6-BH Thermostatic Steam Trap and BT6-BL Thermostatic Steam Trap are individually packaged within a 'clean' environment with protective end caps and sealed in a protective plastic bag. It is designed to be installed in vertical lines with the flow moving downwards so that the body is self-draining. Installation should include a suitable cooling leg to avoid condensate back-up from getting in process equipment under normal operating conditions. Do not expose the capsule element to superheat conditions.
