Throughout the year Cooney Brothers sponsors Steam Training classes. These full day seminars (Approx 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM) are presented by Spirax Sarco, a leading manufacturer of steam traps, pumps and other steam products.
Classes are held in at the state-of-the-art training facilities in Bethlehem, PA. Time is spent both in the classroom and in the live steam lab. Attendees receive a certificate and 8 Professional Development Hours (PDH) upon completion.

Fundamentals of Steam
This training course is designed as a general overview of steam, covering fundamentals and operating best-practices to ensure safety and improve efficiency.

Steam System Design
This course is designed for engineers, covering how to size your system, specifying pressure reducing valves and control valves, as well as condensate recovery and methods to detect steam trap failure

Steam Traps & Condensate Pumps
This maintenance course is structured to provide the necessary knowledge to perform the proper installation and maintenance of traps, regulators, and pumps, as well as troubleshooting issues. This course also covers the proper venting of flash steam, sizing of flash vessels and condensate lines.

Basic Steam Boiler Operator Training
5 Day Class with ASOPE Certification
Basic Steam Boiler Operation is a 5-day course providing information on virtually all facets of steam boiler operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Common boiler auxiliaries and operating techniques are covered in detail.
- Safety and efficiency of operation are stressed.
- Information is included on modern boiler water treatment techniques, construction and repair methods, waste heat recovery, controls, fuels, and draft.
- The training manual includes the latest information on instrumentation and PLC controls systems, variable-frequency drives (VFD’s), steam system optimization, reverse osmosis systems, low-NOx burners, and boiler start-up and shut-down procedures.
On Friday, the last day of the course, the American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE) Region 4 will provide Entry Level 3rd class through Chief Engineering Level testing for those who qualify.
Who should attend: This course is for Steam Plant Operations, Steam Plant Maintenance Personnel, Steam Plant Supervisors/Managers, Facility Operations/Maintenance Personnel, and anyone associated with energy conversion.
