The IC/FP interchangeable cartridge style Thermostatic Freeze Protection Valve is designed to protect piping in processing plants, safety showers, fire lines and spray nozzles or to be used as a backup protection on traced systems. The IC/FP is preferred for heat traced lines where freeze protection flow is not required unless heat tracing fails. Installed into the lowest point within the heated system, the thermal actuator within the valve is tee'd into the NPT threaded opening with adequate internal clearance to monitor the water temperature. When the water temperature drops below the valve's set point, typically 35 deg F (1.7 deg C), the thermal actuator modulates the valve open. Once the makeup water temperature returns to the safe range (5 deg above the open set point, typically 40 deg F [4.4 deg C] ), the valve then modulates closed, minimizing water waste. Due to the sensing element, the thermal actuator, always being wetted this valve is unaffected by ambient air temperature and opens only when the water is in danger of freezing.
