Spotlight On: Taco 007 vs 007e Series Circulators

Posted on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 in PVFundamentals

Taco 007e ECM Circulators Will Replace Taco 007 Circulators as of May 2028

Taco 007 and 007e Circulators

Why is the Taco 007E Series Replacing the 007?

For half a century, the Taco 007 Cartridge Circulator has been the industry standard for hydronic circulation and is still one of the most popular circulators sold today.

But with the Department of Energy's (DOE) new minimum efficiency standards as of May 2028, even this top-of-the-line series won't be able to meet the newly required energy efficiency. This new standard will require a complete transition from AC induction motor circulators to high-efficiency ECM circulators.

This is where the Taco 007e Series comes in.

Taco is preparing for this series to fully replace the classic 007 by May of 2028 because the 007e uses up to 85% less energy than the 007 and other traditional AC motors

The superior energy efficiency of the Taco 007e ECM High Efficiency Circulator sets a new benchmark for eco-friendly and cost-effective solutions. Its ECM permanent magnet motor not only saves enough energy to meet these new DOE standards, but it delivers the same reliable, maintenance-free heating and whisper quiet operation that the 007 is known for.

What sets the 007e series apart from the Taco 007 Circulator?

Here are some advantages that are unique to the Taco 007e series:

  • High-efficiency ECM motor uses up to 85% less electricity
  • SureStart® automatic unblocking and air purging mode
  • BIO Barrier® protects pump from system contaminants (Cast Iron only)
  • Multi-color LED showing operating mode and error code diagnostics, including Green Mode active system monitoring and automatic power optimization
  • Integral Flow Check (IFC®) included, unlike than the 007, where it is an available option
  • More flexible connection type and size options than the 007
  • Nut-grabber feature on flanges for easier fit-up
  • Dual electrical knockouts, 6” stranded wire leads included for easy wiring
  • Double insulated - No ground wire required

Frequently asked questions

Are there Replacement Parts available for the Taco 007 and 007e Circulators?

✓ Yes, cartridge assemblies, o-ring kits, capacitors, and gasket sets are available for both series.

Are both Series designed with Replaceable Cartridges?

✓ Yes, both series are made with a replaceable, self-lubricating, field-serviceable cartridge design.

Are both the Taco 007 and 007e Series for Outdoor Use?

X No, Taco 007e series is for Indoor Use only. The Taco 007 series can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Are both the Taco 007 and 007e Series available with Flanged end connections?

Yes, both series have flange connection types. The Taco 007 is a two-bolt design that can be ordered in either a standard flange or rotated flange configuration depending on the required orientation. The Taco 007e is available with standard flange connections in a two-bolt design as well as with universal flange connections in a 4-bolt design, which allows the circulator to act as a drop-in replacement for circulators from other brands no matter what flange orientation is used. The 007e is also available with union connections that can be fitted into Sweat, NPT, or Press styles.

Do both Series have an Integral Flow Check (IFC®) included in their design?

X No, only the Taco 007e requires an IFC in its design. For Taco 007 Cartridge Circulators, an IFC is not automatically included in its design, but 007 models with IFCs are available to order. This is indicated in the 007 series by the letters "IFC" (Taco 007-IFC Circulators) in the model name. An IFC replaces the need for a separate in-line flow check valve because it protects the circulator from reverse flow and gravity flow. This spring-loaded special part can also be easily accessed for removal and service, which simplifies piping and reduces installation costs.

Can both Series be used with Taco Switching Relays and Zone Valve Control?*

✓ Yes, both series can be used with Taco Switching Relays or Zone Valve Control. Similarly to Taco Zoning Circulators, switching relays and zone valve control manage the flow of heat as it moves through different zones in a facility. However, they work in conjunction with circulators instead of being part of their design.

Do both Series require Mechanical Seals?

X No, neither the Taco 007 and 007e do not require mechanical seals because their robust, double-insulated casing and wet rotor design with integral flow check provides the same leak protection as a mechanical seal but with a quieter, easier operation.

Do both Series have a quiet operation?

✓ Yes, the Taco 007 and 007e are well known for their whisper quiet operation.

--------------------------------------

The Taco 007 and 007e both deliver the dependable performance and reliability that have made Taco a trusted name in hydronic systems for decades. While the original 007 continues to serve as an industry-standard circulator for a wide range of applications, the 007e builds on that legacy with modern ECM technology, intelligent system protection, and significant energy savings.
